Lunch with Tammy Faye
"Choose to Live for Today"

tammyfaye.jpg (7669 bytes)The other day my daughter said something to me that I believe can be life changing. She said, "Mom I've been waiting for life to happen then all of a sudden I realized this IS my life and I need to enjoy it." She told me that she felt like she had been in an airplane sitting on the runway of life waiting to "take off". She told me she felt she had been in a holding pattern. She made a decision that day to begin to live each day to the fullest. Enjoy the things she has TODAY. Enjoy what she is doing TODAY.

We can lose today by worrying about tomorrow. We can lose today doing nothing, waiting for tomorrow and something better to come along in our life. And, what can start as one day lost soon turns into months and then years. What a terrible waste of life!

I see people that are drinking their life away lost in mental dullness, hoping for a better tomorrow. I see people that are sleeping their life away, people that are worrying their life away, people that are wrapped so tightly in bitterness about life that they will never be free to live life. They are sitting in a holding pattern of jealousy, anger, and hatred; their hearts and spirit too heavy to ever fly.

We get caught up in words like "if only" and "what if". If only I were rich things would be different in my life. If only I were beautiful or handsome things would be different in my life. If only I would have gotten the big break that Jake got or Mary got. If only I had a better husband or wife things would be different. If only I had gone to college, on and on and on. We make excuses for ourselves and our failures with these WORDS! We need to ban these words from our language and our minds and get on with the realities of what we are, who we are and where we are. And then we need to DO SOMETHING ABOUT OUR SITUATION!

Many people are caught up in the regrets of yesterday. If only I had done something differently yesterday. What if I had finished high school, what if I hadn't gotten pregnant, what if I hadn't wasted all that money, what if I hadn't taken drugs. I'm sure we all can fill in the blanks of "what if. BUT, there is NOTHING we can do about YESTERDAY. It is like an egg that has fallen on the floor and broken. It can NEVER be put back together again. YESTERDAY is gone. Al we really have is TODAY. None of us are promised TOMORROW. We MUST live TODAY to the fullest! We must make TODAY count. We must give one hundred percent to TODAY! Tomorrow may not come. I'm sure Princess Di felt that she had years of tomorrows. We all felt
that she, a Princess, a famous woman we admired, was invincible. But in one moment all of her tomorrows were wiped out. The world mourned for her,
but I think we also mourned for ourselves and the realization of our own mortality. Learn to live today as if it is your last day on earth. It will change your life!

My daughter and her two little boys came to visit us in California. We were going to be able to spend two weeks together after having not seen each other for a year. We were all ecstatic. The first week was Heaven! Filled with fun and laughter and expectation we enjoyed each day to the fullest. The start of the second week my daughter came out of her bedroom tears streaming down her face. "Mom, it's almost over, in a few days we're going to have to get on the plane and go back home." She was so distressed I too was overcome by sadness. What if she didn't have to leave, if only we lived closer together, what if we couldn't see each other for another year? Before we knew it we had lost a perfectly wonderful day to the sadness of what was yet a few days away. The next day we started out much the same until I realized we were wasting the precious moments we had today worrying about tomorrow. We decided right then and there that we needed an "attitude adjustment" and that we had to change our thinking or the rest of her vacation would be ruined. We made a decision, a choice, not to talk about her leaving but to enjoy each day. The second week ended up fun instead of sad.

We had made a CHOICE to live for today and it worked!

Maybe you are sitting on the runway of life waiting for life to "happen". My friend, THIS IS YOUR LIFE! Make a choice to LIVE IT! Remember, YESTERDAY is gone, it's now history. TODAY is what we have, TOMORROW may not come. And if tomorrow does come it will be TODAY! I believe you can FLY!

Control tower to ground, you may lift off!

"She is truly inspiring"
From: Katherine Clemons
Subject: Lunch.with.Tammy.Faye.Living.Life.feedback
Great article by Tammy Faye. Great message. And the message of her life is even better. She is truly inspiring. She has allowed God to turn the tragedy in her life into a wonderful blessing for all to see. I look forward to hugging her in heaven.

"Jumpstarting my motor"
From: Glotzmom
I didn't expect to like the article as I probably had some past prejudices toward Tammy Faye, probably due to media jokes. However, I loved her article. Her article about living today, made me want to jumpstart my own motor. I printed it out so I could refer to it again when I get "stuck in a rut".
